28 April 2023 – Entebbe, Uganda: IGAD Security Sector Program (IGAD SSP) conducted a three-days regional forum for Networks of Judges, Prosecutors and Crime Investigators to enhance Criminal Information Sharing against Transnational Security Threats held on 26-28 April 2023 in Entebbe, Uganda. The overall objective of the forum was to forge a formal network for an effective criminal information sharing as part of regional cooperation and coordination among the Police, the Criminal Justice Sector, and the Judiciary.
Regional and International Legal Frameworks on Transnational Organized Crime (TOC) Promoted and Sensitized
23 March 2023 – Nairobi, Kenya: IGAD Security Sector Program (IGAD SSP) has successfully conducted a regional training workshop on regional and international normative frameworks and initiatives on Transnational Organized Crimes (TOC) including the opportunities, challenges, and prospects to IGAD and its MSs to strengthen cross-border cooperation on 20-23 March 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya.
Ethiopia Inter-University, Research and Policy Institute Seminar on Trafficking in Persons & Smuggling of Migrants Concluded
10 March 2023 – Bishoftu, Ethiopia: IGAD Security Sector Program (IGAD SSP) has successfully conducted a national inter-university, research, and policy institutions Seminar on good practices of Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (TiP & SoM) on 6-10 March 2023 in Bishoftu, Ethiopia. The overall objective of the seminar was to provide a platform for these institutions and relevant state actors for exchange of ideas, sharing of information, and creating a mechanism to have the knowledge products that are available as well as create a future collaborative environment for an effective prevention and countering of the threat in the country and beyond.
Regional Forum on International and Regional Legal Frameworks to Combat the Financing of Terrorism successfully Conducted
2 March 2023 – Bishoftu, Ethiopia: About thirty experts and practitioners from the national institutions of all Member States mandated with the fight against the multiple facets of the financing of terrorism debated from 28 February to 2nd March at a regional forum on ways and means of strengthening regional cooperation as well as discussed best practices and approaches to tackle the threat.
Inter-Ministerial Forum on Transnational Security Threats Successfully Concluded
5 February 2023, Mombasa, Kenya: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development’s (IGAD’s) Security Sector Program (IGAD SSP) concluded successfully a two-days Inter-Ministerial Forum for the Ministers of Justice/Attorney General, Police Commissioners/Inspector Generals, and IGAD Committee of Ambassadors to enhance the Regional Cooperation and Coordination against Transnational Security Threats (TSTs) held on 30-31 January 2023 in Mombasa, Kenya.
