Nairobi, September 15, 2015 - The Intergovernmental Authority on Development's (IGAD's) Security Sector Program (SSP) in partnership with the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and the African Union (AU), is holding a two days workshop to enhance the implementation of UN Resolutation 1540 and other non-proliferation instruments for all IGAD member States.
Condolences on the death of Ms. Joan Kagezi
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development’s (IGAD’s) Security Sector Program (ISSP) would like to express its deepest condolences to the tragic death of Ms. Joan Kagezi, the Senior State Principal Attorney of Uganda.
Ms. Kagezi has been working with ISSP in the capacity of an expert and resource person in the various activities of the Office. She was professional, sociable, and candid in sharing her vast experience and knowledge.
ISSP wishes to express its condolences to her family, her friends, and the Government. The IGAD region surely lost a great professional who was committed in fighting criminals and those with ill intentions. May her soul rest in eternal peace!
The Comprehensive Assessment Study on Vulnerabilities and Threats of Transnational Organized Crime in the IGAD Region Validated
Port Sudan, 5 December 2014 – IGAD Security Sector Program (ISSP) held a four days validation workshop of the regional baseline assessment study report on the vulnerabilities and threats of TOC in the IGAD region held on 1-4 December 2014 in Port Sudan, Republic of Sudan. The Pillar Head of the Transnational Organized Crime at ISSP, Commander Tuemay Aregawi, chaired the meeting.
ISSP Conducted Regional Training on Maritime Domain Awareness and Intelligence
Djibouti, 4 December 2014 – IGAD Security Sector Program (ISSP) held a three days regional training workshop on maritime domain awareness and intelligence held on 1-3 December 2014 in Djibouti, Republic of Djibouti. Mr. Daniel Yifru, the Senior Advisor of the Peace and Security Division of IGAD, made welcoming remarks and officially opened the training. Pillar Head of the Maritime Security at ISSP, Mr. Daoud A. Alwan, chaired the meeting.
The ISSP Task Force Report on Establishment of a Regional Centre Validated
Entebbe, 31 October 2014 – IGAD Security Sector Program (ISSP) held a three days validation workshop of the Task Force Report on the Establishment of a Regional Centre for Cooperation and Coordination on Existing, Evolving and Emerging Transnational Security held on 28-30 October 2014 in Entebbe, Uganda. Commander Abebe Muluneh, the Head of ISSP, officially opened the meeting. Dr. Simon Nyambura, the Counter Terrorism Pillar Head at ISSP chaired the meeting with the facilitation of ISSP Pillar Heads and the IGAD Secretariat Legal Counsel.
