5 February 2020, Djibouti - IGAD Security Sector Program (IGAD SSP) concluded the National training for Somalia Imams’ on disengagement, deradicalization, rehabilitation, and reintegration (DDRR) approaches to counter terrorism in Djibouti at IGAD Head Quarter. The training was held between 26 January and 05 February 2020. The overall objectives of Imams’ training was building the capacity of Islamic leaders (Imams’) on Disengagement, Deradicalization, Reintegration, and Rehabilitation (DDRR) approaches to counter terrorism, Al Shabaab and other terrorist fighters, and youth at risk of recruitment to terrorist and extremist forces. The training is financed by the Government of Japan as a continuous support for a series of training for Somalia, which were held in Jig Jiga, Djibouti, Dire Dawa and Kismayo for Somali nationals that consist of youths, religious leaders, clan leaders, public officials, civil society organizations and other related stakeholders.

26 January 2020, Djibouti – The IGAD Security Sector Program (IGAD SSP) today kicked off a two weeks National Training for Somalia Imams on disengagement, deradicalization, rehabilitation, and reintegration (DDRR) approaches to counter terrorism in at IGAD Head Quarter that will run through 05 February 2020. The training is financed by the Government of Japan as a continuous support for a series of trainings which were held in JigJiga, Djibouti, Dire Dawa and Kismayo for Somali nationals that consists of youths, religious leaders, clan leaders, public officials, civil society organizations and other related stakeholders.

17 January 2020, Entebbe-Uganda - The IGAD Security Sector Program (IGAD SSP), with support from the European Union Trust Fund (EUTF) administered by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) under the IPPSHAR program conducted a three days regional Training of Trainers (ToT) on “Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Safety and Security for IGAD Member States” held on 15-17 January 2020 in Entebbe, Uganda.

12 December 2019, Djibouti: The IGAD Security Sector Program (IGAD SSP) has successfully concluded a three-days regional training for Port (air, water, and land) Authorities in ‘Detecting, Identifying and Intercepting suspected terrorists and Foreign Terrorist Fighters on border crossing points’ with the objective to enhance institutional capacities of the IGAD Member States. The training was intended particularly to enhance the capabilities of port authorities in the IGAD region in effective mechanisms using biometric data and other traveler identification systems on how to detect, identify and intercept suspected terrorists and FTFs when such individuals attempt to enter into/exit from, or transit through borders of IGAD Member States.
