Regional Training on the Protection of Victims, Witnesses and Criminal Justice System officials as a Good Practice in Preventing and Countering Terrorism

31 August 2016, Entebbe – The IGAD Security Sector Program (IGAD SSP), in partnership with the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF), has conducted a three days regional training workshop from 29 to 31 August 2016 on the Protection of Victims, Witnesses and Criminal Justice System officials as a Good Practice in Preventing and Countering Terrorism in the Horn and Eastern Africa Region in Entebbe, Uganda.

IGAD Consultative Meetings on the Development of Regional Strategy on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism


UgandaCVEAugust 2016, Kampala: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is in the process of developing a Regional Strategy on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism with support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and financial contribution of the Government of Japan. The strategy will be developed within the framework of supporting the operationalization and development of the Horn and Eastern Africa CVE Center of Excellence and Counter-Messaging Hub.

IGAD SSP officially Launched the “Al-Shabaab as a Transnational Security Threat” Report

15 August 2016, Addis Ababa: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development’s (IGAD’s) Security Sector Program (SSP) in collaboration with Sahan Foundation today officially launched and released the study report on Al-Shabaab as a Transitional Security Threat.

Al Shabaab has aspired to become a truly regional organization, with the membership and horizons that transcend national borders. It became active in no less than six countries (Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda and Tanzania) of the region, striking terrorist attacks on five of them. It is well known that Al-Shabaab’s operation reach has expanded beyond Somalia to the wider region.
